Teaching

Early teaching in Emek Israel, Ein Charod and Beit Alfa in the 1950’s

When returning from his studies, Uzi Wiesel began to teach students of all ages and abilities in Israel. One of his first experiences was in the north of Israel, at the studio in Beit Alfa.

Rubin Academy of Music, Tel Aviv University

At the invitation of the then Academy Director, Oeden Partos, Uzi began to teach at the Academy in 1958 before it was amalgamated into the Tel Aviv University as the Rubin Academy. Later the Academy changed its name to the Buchman-Mehta School of Music.

Uzi Wiesel was one of the first music academics to receive the highest level of professorship at the Academy.

Until his emeritus appointment in 1996 he taught and influenced generations of young musicians. Many of them became important solo and orchestral musicians. His interpretation classes were highly inspiring and were attended by a variety of students from all instruments. Numerous students came to the academy to study with him from overseas.

Only two cellists have held the position in the last 60 years at the Academy. In 1996 Uzi’s position as Cello Professor was passed on to one of his most important students, Hillel Zori, who continues to foster and encourage the young generation of cellists and Israeli cello music in Uzi’s spirit.
